Launch of the Orthodontic Therapists Society

On Saturday 23rd March, an inaugural meeting of the Orthodontic Therapists Society (OTS) was held at The University of Warwick Medical School

The event was generously sponsored by Ortho Care.

An impressive number of delegates attended and enjoyed excellent presentations which included the use of differential bracket torques, effective communication for the orthodontic therapists and the restorative/orthodontic interface.

Richard Drummond, head of public policy at the GDC supported the society by giving a GDC update and review of the scope of practice.

Stronger together

There was very positive feedback from the delegates who said  ‘it was a brilliant and informative day, meeting and networking with other orthodontic therapists and bringing us all together’.

The society ethos is ‘stronger together – inspiring and engaging orthodontic therapists at each and every stage of their career’.

Donna Campbell, chair of the society, said: ‘The society acknowledges the challenges that many orthodontic therapists and student orthodontic therapists face in their day-to- day work.

‘We want to encourage them to come together as a collective group and to share a voice through learning, application, experience and reflection.’

Donna believes that the orthodontic therapists of today will be instrumental in driving the profession forwards.

She was delighted with the great success of the inaugural meeting and all the support she had received from the profession.
